Job Description

I.          TITLE: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

            CODE: PRO 907

 II.        SUMMARY: 

 An employee in this classification, under the direction of a Coordinator is responsible for evaluating and assessing speech and language disabilities and providing   interventions and recommendations for those individuals diagnosed with a communication disorder

III.       DUTIES:

75%

Provides speech/language evaluations and assessments for eligible children.

Participates in transdisciplinary team approach to providing services.

Assists in developing functional communication objectives for the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Serves as consultant to staff, families and providers on communication techniques and needs, services and supports, and best practice.

Attends Core team meetings and makes recommendations for EI services.

Completes required reports for those served.

Refers individuals to community resources for speech and audiological services.

Coordinates and/or develops augmentative communication techniques and/or devices as needed.

Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, laws and Board policies and procedures.

Attends meetings, conferences and seminars.

Provides speech and language services for children and their families

May be required to orient individuals assigned to the department.

May train staff in areas of speech and language development and best practices.

Performs other related duties as required.

 

IV.       EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Instructional equipment, Personal computer, applications software and other office equipment.

Speech and hearing therapy equipment/TTY and computer.

 

V.        WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position may involve exposure to individuals with medical and behavioral risks.

 

VI.       KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of speech and language therapy.

Ability to operate speech and  language therapy equipment.

Ability to gather, evaluate and classify data.

Ability to plan and develop effective programming.

Counseling and communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships.

Organizational and communication skills.

Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication methods and equipment.

 

VII.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

A.        Education:

  • Master degree in Speech Language Pathology or Bachelor degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with current State of Ohio Licensure

    OR

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited college/university with conditional license as described in ORC 4753.071.  May be required to complete a Supervised Professional Experience within 12 months of hire, if necessary for licensure.

 

B.  Experience:

Preferred one (1) year experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a professional Early Intervention setting.

 

C.        Credentials:

1.         Certification: N/A

2.         Registration: N/A

3.         Licensure: Licensure as issued through the Ohio State Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. Valid     driver license.

 

D.        Ancillary Training: Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid. Training as required by the Board.

 

E.         OtherRequires own transportation. Early Intervention requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
