Job Description

I.          TITLE:          EMPLOYMENT NAVIGATOR

            CODE:           PRO 530

                                       

II.        SUMMARY:

            An employee in this classification, under the supervision of a Coordinator, is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in determining and pursuing employment outcomes, and maintaining the individual focus.  An employee in this classification will connect individuals to employment services and will utilize multiple systems, including vocational rehabilitation, education and workforce development.  

 

III.       DUTIES:

 

50%

 Participates in the Person Centered Planning process and plan development.

Assists individuals to identify their place on the path to employment. 

Assists in the development of employment related desired outcomes that are meaningful to the individual.

Educates the individual, family, and team on the various employment services provided in the community as well as within our agency.

Coordinates employment services for individuals across systems. 

Develops a knowledge base and builds relationships with employment services in the community. 

Assists individuals and their team to consider the range of employment possibilities, to make informed decision(s) about employment, and identify key preparatory steps needed for future employment success.    

Completes referrals to employment services in the community.

Monitors and provides support to providers and vendors on the individual employment related desired outcomes and action steps as needed. 

Monitors progress towards the employment related desired outcomes for the individual.

Maintains knowledge of and explains the continuum of services that may be offered to assist an individual with their employment search, vocational training opportunities, and post-secondary education options available in the community. 

Maintains knowledge and understanding of benefits systems, provides guidance to individuals and families regarding benefits, and completes referrals for benefits analysis as needed. 

Serves as a resource for the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Board) with expertise in employment services that assist individuals with disabilities to enter and remain in the workforce. 

Promotes and supports communication between team members related to the individual’s progress, or lack of progress, towards achieving employment and/or their desired outcomes.

Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, laws and Board policies and procedures.

 Recommends policies and procedures for the operation of programs, and assures proper implementation in accordance with state and federal requirements.

Assists in development of assessment tools and related surveys for evaluation of services.

Participates in job related training and communicates with provider, schools, and community agencies to maintain a current base of knowledge and expertise regarding employment services.

Serves on related committees as assigned.

 

 15%   

Maintains a variety of records, reports, correspondence, and other communication.

Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and activities.

May be required to orient staff assigned to the department.

 Performs other related duties as required.      

 

IV.       EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

 Personal computer, applications software, and basic office equipment.

 

V.        WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position may involve exposure to individuals with medical and behavioral risks. Will require evenings, weekends, and locations convenient for individuals/families served.

 

VI.       KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

 Public relations and communications skills.   

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships.

Knowledge of social work or related principles, practices and techniques.

Careful listening and problem solving.

Computer skills related to spreadsheets, databases and word processing.

Knowledge of self-determination philosophy and principles.

Ability to facilitate exploration of individual choices, preferences, aspirations and needs.

Knowledge of community resources, programs, services and supports for persons with developmental disabilities.

Knowledge of systems and services through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities.

           

VII.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

            A.        Education:

            Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, education, or related area.  Master degree preferred.

            B.        Experience:

                        One (1) year of experience in coordinating, evaluating and/or implementing community employment services and one (1) year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

            C.        Credentials:

                        1.         Certification:

                                    Certification as issued by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).

                        2.         Licensure:

                                    Valid driver license

            D.        Ancillary Training:

  1. Adult CPR/AED and First Aid
  2. Mandatory training as required by the Board and DODD

 

Must be qualified to perform all duties assigned to this position.
